Cross platform emoticons?

I know that this has had to have been asked but I can't find it. Does anyone know of an app that allows you to send emoticons to multiple platforms? Emoji only works iPhone to iPhone.

I was thinking something like CrunchSMS but I don't see anything in the itunes store.

If you are jailbroken I'm pretty certain that bite SMS available in cydia is able to do this!
