Chillingos six-million-selling iOS game Cut the Rope made gaming history yesterday by becoming the first iOS game to win a prestigious BAFTA Game Award at the awards ceremony in London last night. In what could be an ominous reminder, if any were needed, for the rest of the industry of the growing importance of iOS gaming, Cut the Rope beat out contenders on Sonys PSP and Nintendos DS console to win the Handheld game of the year award. You can see the games hero Om Nom holding his precious BAFTA above. He probably ate it soon after!
Cut the Rope has been nothing short of a phenomenon on the iOS platform and were delighted its been recognized by the British Academy, said Chris Byatte, Co-General Manager of Chillingo.
"It is hugely flattering to win for such a prestigious award, added Efim Voinov, CTO of the games developer, Zeptolab. The whole team is ecstatic!
Indeed an amazing achievement for Chillingo and the games developer Zeptolab. Why no nomination for Angry Birds though? Seems strange.
