Cydia headaches

Ok, so my wife just scored an iPhone 4. Still had the 5.1.1 firmware so I didn't update and went strait for the jailbreak. But cydia crashes as its launching. So I looked up resources saying you need to go into /var/lib/apt/lists and delete some stuff. Problem is I go to /var and there is no lib. Any ideas? Is it a hidden folder or something? I'm using disk aid if that makes any difference. Please help

The only way to reinstall Cydia is to have a Terminal on your iPhone. But in your case, you can't download anything since Cydia crashes, so your only option is to rejailbreak the iPhone.

I originally used absinthe. Tried redsn0w in dfu. Still got nothing.

You'll need to rejailbreak since Cydia isn't connecting to its servers properly and isn't caching correctly, which is when the folder is formed.

Do I need to do a factory reset first? I tried to rejailbreak and it didnt get the folders back

Yes, you'll have to restore back to factory first.
