Deleting Text messages & why aren't they visible in iCloud

This is about my iPhone 8. How do I delete all text messages without having to select each message individually? I have years accumulated. I know they are getting backed up to my iCloud, but they are not actually accessible from the iCloud! I don't understand why. Do I need 3rd party software to select messages in batch to delete? PLEASE HELP!

You can go to Messages in Settings and select History. Opt for Delete after 30 days, which should reduce the pile considerable and then delete the rest.

Make sure you have Settings enabled to sync your messages first.
