WatchKit allows for developers to start creating apps for Apple's first wearable device. The SKD is available right in the Developer Center for iOS Developer Program members. WatchKit was previously rumored to not be available until next summer, but it seems Apple wants the Watch to be release among a myriad of applications for folks to download.
Popular company's like the Facebook-owned Instagram have already received early access to WatchKit and have begun to developer features for the Apple Watch. Co-founder and CEO of Instagram Kevin Systrom chimed in from behind the scenes, "Apple Watch allows us to make the Instagram experience even more intimate and in the moment,". He continues to point out, "With actionable notifications you can see and instantly like a photo or react with an emoji. The Instagram news and watch list allows you to see your friends’ latest photos, follow new accounts and get a real-time view of your likes and comments."
Developers interested in creating apps, or updating apps, for next year's Apple Watch can begin today, obviously with a $99 iOS Developer subscription. WatchKit along with the iOS 8.2 SDK can be found in the Developer Center today.
