Disabled iPhone

Hello everyone,
I own a iPhone 4 and forgot its password and now the phone is disabled after I tried so many times.
I have found many articles online, but none of them works.
I have tried to connect the iphone with itunes, than holding the home button until the iTunes logo appears.
The logo on my phone appears but on the iTunes I get the message: The iPhone software update server could not be contacted.

I've been receiving this message all day and I don't know what to do. So if anyone got any idea of how to fix this I would really appreciate.

If you use Find my iPhone, it's possible to erase it without iTunes.

Go to iCloud, using a browser. Login with your iCloud ID. Select "All Devices", then choose your iPhone. Erase it. Your iPhone has to be connected to Wi-Fi or a cellular network.
