9to5 has a story today that could possibly be music to the ears of gamers everywhere, with a report saying that the digital games distribution platform, Steam, from Valve Corporation, may well have plans to expand to the iOS and Android markets. Valve has already launched Steam for the Mac last May, so its not surprising that a mobile version could be on the way, and its also yet another indication of the growing importance of iOS gaming in the gaming world. The source of the speculation was a chat between a Steampowered User Forum member and Valves co-founder Gabe Newell at Valves headquarters in Bellevue, Washington. Heres the direct quote from the forum member via 9to5 Mac:
He [Newell] said they were looking into the iOS/Android platform for possible expansions with Steam.
Sounds very promising! However, as 9to5 Mac points out, Valve will have a lot of competition from already well-established developers should it think about expanding into the App Store, but even so, the thought of Steam-powered games on your iPhone and iPad is truly mouthwatering!
