Downloading Text Messages

I just got a new car and the manual states that the car will recognize incoming text message via bluetooth as long as your phone has the capability to download text messages via bluetooth. Does anyone know if the 3gs can do this, or if any phone can?

DriveSafe.ly was a good app on the blackberry for reading SMS to you, not sure how good the iphone version is, its free though
