I think I'm using the OEM Contacts app. Recently, I've found 6-8 of my contacts are duplicated. Not twice, but 12-18 times - literally. Deleting the duplicates results in them reappearing. How do I permanently remove duplicates?
BONUS: Related or not, I've found my husband's contacts appear in the 'List' of Lists, if that makes since. How do I remove his email address related contacts?

You know the same thing happened to me many times throughout the years, somehow I would end up with 10-15 of the same contact for multiple people. I don't really know how or why this happens.

If you go into the contacts part of settings, does it show any email accounts listed?

And if you are in the contacts application, below "My card", does it give you an option to delete duplicates?

Thanks for the reply. Under "Lists," I have 3 entries - "All Contacts" "All Gmail" and my husband's email. I have no idea how his contacts got in my lists. How do I delete that?

Each of those in the list have my name and "My Card." under that. Nowhere do I see "Delete Duplicates." what am I missing?

Hmm, the iPhone decides when and when not to show the duplicates button... ( I have no clue when this button decides to show, I'm guessing when the iPhone detects duplicates)

If you go into Settings > Mail > Accounts, you might see your Gmail and your husband's email listed. You can delete your husbands by selecting it. If you go into your Gmail from that accounts page, there should be a switch to turn contacts on or off. Try setting it to off to see if that improves any duplicates.
