Emoticons on iPhone Keyboard

Is there any way to add a smiley face button to the iPhone keyboard? And not the stupid emoji things cause that doesnt go to non-iPhones. Something like biteSMS, where you can click the +, choose the face and it shows it as a smiley face to any phone.

ive only ever heard of the the "stupid emoji one"

I think all emoji or emoticons only work iPhone - iPhone...

Ugh I regret using the word emoji now lol and thats not true, because the emoticons you can add with the + button in biteSMS show up as a , or :-( on a normal phone.

I didnt realize I would miss this from Android lol

What I ment by them only working iPhone - iPhone is that they only show up as proper emoticons on iPhones etc. Where as other phones just get standard text...
