Evdo Only Mode

Does anyone know if the 4s or 4 can be switched to evdo only mode. I live in a fringe area and the 1x is stronger then evdo. I currently have a palm pre which can switch to evdo only and it helps when tethering. I was hoping that the iphone would be able to switch to evdo only, so I can use it to tether. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. I wonder if its possible thru jailbreak, or if some dev can figure out a way to do it.

I believe that the ATT iphine has an option in settings to switch to EVDO but the Verizon version does not.
