If you’re an ExxonMobil customer then you’ll be happy to know that the company now offers support for Apple Pay via its Speedpass+ iOS app. MacRumors reports that customers can use the app to pay for their gas or for other services at the gas station such as car washes.
And while many ExxonMobil stations already have RFID stations equipped to enable them to take mobile payments, Bryant Russell, ExxonMobil’s Americas program manager for mobile payment and loyalty explained why the company had opted to focus on the app.
“Anything that involves the pump from a hardware point of view takes years to deploy and is extremely expensive.”
Russell was speaking at a demo event for the new app at a San Mateo gas station, with ExxonMobil also announcing that the service will be rolling out to more than 6,000 ExxonMobil gas stations in 46 states. The company hopes that the service will be available in all 10,000 ExxonMobile stations in the US by the end of this year.
