FB & Twitter Push Notifications

Greetings Iphoners!

I am currently constructing an application where if a user commits an action, it automatically shows up as their twitter/facebook status that they have performed that action.

Similar to : Nike+, once the runner is finished with their run, their FB or Twitter status/tweet shows the miles they ran. (Of course they must accept FB or Twitter to allow the application to push)

Can someone please guide me the right direction on the literature to perform this action on an application?
