First iphone

Hi,
I just got my first iphone today.
I will be 50 soon and just wanted to keep up with the times.
I bought it used. I thought it was a 3gs but in the upper box on the phone it says 3g.
I'm tring to learn how to use the phone.
There were no instructions, but the guy at the ATT store was telling me a lot of stuff. Now I'm home and tring to remember. Its not working well for me.
I know I need to set up a ITune acc. but I forgot how he said to do it.
Gosh I need help!
Can someone help me out please?
