Fleetmaster

In game center, and while playing fleetmaster I am finding that although I have a list of friends, I cant actualy invite them to play, even though I know they are online and waiting.
I choose a friend from the list, tap on the play button and it just says waiting.
Fleetmaster only seems to work if I choose auto select.
Also, although there is a box for reporting a problem, it seems there is no one there to answere or perhaps they just dont care
I perhaps should point out that I am using an ipad and my friends are using an ipod. Will this make a difference

I'm not into gaming so I'm not certain but my sense is that if you are both connected correctly the device should not cause any issues. I can connect via iChat to folks on Gtalk, AIM, Messenger so I would hope the same is true for gaming.
