Engadget today reports that according to Steve Jobs' forthcoming authorised biography, penned by Walter Isaacson, the late Apple CEO was initially not at all convinced that an app-based environment would be the right way forward for Apple, apparently because he wasn't sure that Apple would actually be able to pull the whole thing off. Isaacson writes that Apple board member Art Levinson had to call Jobs on the phone many times trying to convince him that apps were the way forward for Apple. Isaacson elaborates that Jobs initially poured cold water on the idea "partly because he felt his team did not have the bandwidth to figure out all the complexities that would be involved in policing third-party app developers." Quite how they managed to eventually convince Jobs about the use of apps is not mentioned, but hopefully the book goes into much more detail. "Steve Jobs" is due for release on October 24.
