Reuters reports that Foxconn CEO Terry Gou has today spoken out about iPhone 5 shortages. “It’s not easy to make the iPhones. We are falling short of meeting the huge demand,” he told reporters following a business forum. Reuters says that despite being frank in his admission of these problems, Gou refused to comment on brokerage reports that said that Foxconn’s International Holdings unit was also now helping out with production, alongside Hon Hai Precision Industry, which is Foxconn’s main plant for assembling the iPhone 5. Also reporting on Gou’s comments, the Wall Street Journal, as reported on by MacRumors, says that Gou admitted that Foxconn was unable to fulfil Apple’s supply demands, and that this was because of specific production issues. As has been previously reported elsewhere, the production issues seem to revolve around Apple’s strict quality standards, which are proving very difficult for Foxconn to meet. The WSJ says that the supply problems are even affecting Apple’s share price, with investors worried that Apple will not be able to fulfil consumer demand adequately.
