Google Latitude friend ping

I have had an iPhone 5 for a few weeks. I have the Google Latitude app from the Apple App Store installed. When using Google Latitude on my spouses Android phone, I tried to ping my iPhone. The Android phone indicates that a ping was sent, but the iPhone does not. Is this normal behavior, or am I missing something?
