The Verge reports that Google is "close to finishing the final technical details" to support iOS devices. The report points to sources close to development and even comes with a photo of an LG G Watch R supporting a FaceTime notification.
In its current state of development, Android Wear works along with a companion app on the iPhone and supports basic functions like notifications — as you can see in the photo below. As it does on Android, on the iPhone Android Wear also supports Google Now’s ambient information cards, voice search, and other voice actions. It should also support some more advanced features with Google’s own iOS apps, like replying to Gmail messages.
Though there has no official announcement from Google, the company's big I/O developer conference happens in May. Good news for anyone who won't be getting an Apple Watch for whatever reason. Although it does seem like Google might have a difficult time getting its companion app into the App Store, with Apple entering a new market.
