9to5Mac reports that new details have emerged (via AndroidPolice) about Google’s forthcoming Copresence service, which is designed to alert Android users when “people, places and things” of interest to them are nearby.
According to the new reports, the feature, which was previously called “Nearby” will be cross-platform, and will enable iOS and Android users to share content with each other and also communicate with each other when in close proximity.
The report says that the two devices will use either location information or Bluetooth to authenticate each other, with the actual transfer of content taking place via Wi-Fi.
Images relating to the new service were discovered by an AndroidPolice reader in the latest release of the Google Play Services APK. The images, of which there are several, show iOS and Android devices sharing files, pictures, conversation, text, audio, all via Copresence.
According to Android Police, the new service will be launched by Google in “the coming weeks.”
