Hardware or Software Issue?

Hi everyone,my iphone3 or 3gs on start shows the apple logo for few seconds and then to recovery mode and shuts down. I don't hear any sound when i plug it to charge.I've tried retoring it in rec. mode and dfu mode ,itunes states unknown error -1 cAn not be restored! capacity n/a,software version n/a, serial# n/a ;can anyone please save me and my iphone? THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!!!!!!
