Help receiving emoticons from Samsung galaxy s3

Hi my friend has the Samsung Galaxy S3 and I have the new Iphone 5 but whenever she texts me with her emoticons from her S3 instead of showing a cute picture of a smiley it will display

on my screen instead. Is there a way so that the emoticon shows up properly?

Unfortunately, no, there isn't a way. The two devices use different versions of emojis and they can't "talk" to each other. The only thing you can do is use Unicode symbols or just use the simple text codes. Sorry.

Yes, there is a way to do it. Tell your friend to download an app called Handcent SMS. That's what I used when I had an Android phone. Works great & the iPhone can view emojis & vice versa.
