I live in Egypt

I have no or little experience on I phone (in general)

I am planning to buy a new I phone 4, SO I choose this forum and I want your help

One of my friends in USA tell me that he gonna give me I phone 4 , new one but the problem that, it is LOCKED, so I want your advices, should I take it or no? It will work in other places?
