Hey everyone I'm new on here wanted to let everyone know. I also had a qeustion about the iMessage and if you have to have someone's number to message them or of you can get there apple id and do it similar to bbm from rim. Thanks for any input.

hello and welcome to the forum!

you can use their apple id to send messages, as long as they have it set up in the settings to enable apple ID,

tap on settings > Messages > then tap on "receive at" and you can then enter your apple ID and instead of giving your phone number out you can give your email which is very handy, also note that you both have to have the same version of imessage for it to work.
