How can i unlock my 3GS iphone by at&t?

I got to upgrade to iphone4s a few days ago. So i dont need to use 3GS;; i would like to unlock my 3GS...when I went to att today but they said that "you have to use by 611" so i called att call center....they said u need to call apple;; what the xxxx;;
Plz help me!!

Are you looking to "Unlock" your 3GS or "Jailbreak" it? Unlocking will allow you to use the iPhone on a different GSM Carrier. Jailbreaking allows you to customize every aspect of the iPhone to your liking.

Warning you must be carefull iphone 3gs 8gig with serial number XX128XX, XX136XX, XX137XXX was a major problem when upgrading baseband into 6.15

because wfi, bluetooth, imei , iccd may lose if you upgrade the baseband
