How do I activate my phone?

So I have an iPhone...I think the phone came from China. I want to know how the hell I can get it to start working without me having to go into an At&t store or Apple store. I tried taking the phone into both locations and they said the only way they can find out if I can use the phone on at&t network is if I let them upgrade my current service or something to the iphone plans...Well I don't want to do that! I simply just want the phone to work so I can jailbreak it and sell it! When I factory reset the phone it says I need a sim to connect to the internet and register the phone through iTunes. I have at&t but my sim card is to big. HELP!

You will need to find a sim that the phone is locked to to activate it in iTunes.

I believe the redsnow jailbreak 'hacktivates' your phone so that you don't need any sim. Remember just because you can jailbreak the phone doesn't mean you can unlock it...
