How do I minimize the keyboard?

I was used to an iPad keyboard before I got my phone, and that has an icon which makes the keyboard disappear if you wish (ie, if you've finished typing a message).

I can't figure out how to do this on the iPhone.

When I get a text message, for example, I touch the message and it comes up with the keyboard showing, covering the bottom half of the screen. To get rid of it, I have to go back to the message list, and then through to the message again - very laborious and frustrating. I've tried everything I can think of, but nothing seems to work.

Surely there must be an easy way?

Slide it from top down. As long as on your way down, you touch the top of the text entering area, it'll drag down the keyboard.

Yeah, I can't get that to work in notes, web pages, email of the IPF.net apps. I guess it's a native-only thing.

Web pages you'll have to tap on a non-text entry field and it should minimize
