How to do this

OK so I'm 65 and new to everything iPhone.
Just been gifted an iP 4S with no sim card.
ALL I want to do with it is download from my computer a video file on to the 4S, then build the screen side into a scale model. Running the video will give extra dimension to the model.
I have a Nokia 1020 and downloading a video file to it is easy (Windows) but the screen is too big.

1) My computer does recognize it has a mobile device connected (the 4S), but, I can't drag and drop a file to it.
Q) Do I have to get a sim, go on-line, download specific software...so the 4S will allow me to download to it?

Be very grateful for any insights as to the way you have done this (if you have or it can be done)

In answer to part of your query, you do need a SIM card to activate an iPhone.

Click “File > Add Files to Library” at the upper left corner of the window. Then select the video files on your computer and add them to the library. Click the iPhone icon in iTunes and choose Movies Library in the left sidebar. Then check Sync Movies and click Apply.

Download and install iTunes to your computer

Import (drag) the video into iTunes

Connect the phone to the computer, you may have to log into iTunes

Open the movie section of iTunes and drag the movie onto your phone
