How to jailbreak 3G

I have a 3g with 4.0.1 Software, what is the best way to jailbreake it and unlock it with?

Will jailbreakme.com work on a 3g?

I don't see why not. Unless I'm missing something?

Try it and see it only takes a few seconds and is easily reversible on a 3g, just make sure you do a backup first. Running iOS 4 on a 3g is not recommended though...

Shift Restore you phone to 4.0.1. Do not update and restore your phone...
