Baseband has nothing to do with jailbreaking, it's only for unlock. A quick look around the hacking section will show you what your looking for...
Baseband in a certain way happen to have something to do with jailbreak. Let's say that I need to upgrade my baseband to a version supported by ultrasnow, the fact that I want to upgrade the baseband already involve a choice which have to be made on the selection of the jailbreaking tool that I can use for that purpose. Same thing if I want to preserve my base band. Unless all jailbreaking tools nowadays are up to date to preserve or to upgrade the basebands while cooking the firmware, then I will agree that basebanding really have nothing to do with jailbreak. Until that before someone jailbreak the iOS, he have to know what is the baseband of the phone and wether preserve or upgrade the baseband to be able to know what jailbreaking tool to use for the best jailbreak results and less hassles. And yes the top concern of baseband is lock unlock the phone, a concern which a right selection of a jailbreak tool can help to solve a bit.

I have baseband 1.0.06 I tried pwnage tool and it won't let me check where it says activate phone and if u try to do it after the phone restores it stays stuck with an apple what do I do to jailbreak I have tried everything please someone help me
Use redsnow to jailbreak it straight away. In the process you will only have to put the iPhone in DFU mode.

If you will watch the video I reference in my post above you will be able to jailbreak easily with redsnow. That's what I used and I demo that in the video if you need any more help send me a pm

I believe redsnow doesn't work for 4.2.8. Only snowbreeze does. Please correct me if I'm wrong...

Yes redsnow does jailbreak 4.2.8 CDMA and I don't know but maybe redsnow got updated to jailbreak 4.2.8 but it's been a long time now that redsnow can jailbreak 4.2.8

It definatly never used to be able to do it. GSM iPhones had the choice of using snowbreeze or redsnow while verzion users were stuck with snowbreeze. After reading up on it the redsnow jailbreak for 4.2.8 seems more complicated than snowbreeze...
