ive been talking to a mate of mine about jailbreaking (hes quite into his tech so i tend to lean towards his advice)

he said he didnt jailbreak his ipod as it can then get hacked from 3rd party sources.

id just like someone in the know to give me a brief pros Vs cons list on why i should/shouldnt jailbreak my phone

My iPad is JB and never even though about someone hacking into it. I guess anything is possible, though.

You need to use Mobile Terminal to change your root password. The default is 'alpine' and in theory if it isn't changed someone could hack into your phone. There is a how to in cydia; although as I recall the version of Mobile Terminal it links to doesn't work for 4.x.x firmware or 5; you'll need to search cydia for a version compatible with your firmware. If you jailbroke using "jailbreakme 3.0" also install " PDF Patcher 2" which closes another possible exploit.
