On Monday, it seems that the Facebook-owned company had a change of heart regarding the resolution limits. Instagram co-founder Mike Krieger tweeted out that Instagram will now allow 1080 x 1080 pixel images to be uploaded and shared on feeds.
The new update is apparently server side, so no actual app update is required, and has been rolling out to users for almost a week. Unfortunately, desktop Instagram users are out of luck at the time of this writing. The desktop version of Instagram still shows lower quality photos with no update in sight.
