My personal hotspot feature has just vanished from my phone. Any ideas?

I just had the same problem. I tried several turn-off, turn-on combinations, and was about to try a complete restore of the phone from iTunes, but then found an easier answer.

Go to General -> Network

In my case, here I saw the Personal Hotspot entry, but with the spinning busy indicator which never went away.

The fix: turn Enable 3G to Off, and then back On again.

Poof, my Personal Hotspot works again.

Thanks guys, but none of those fixes work. looks like i will have to hard reset...:-(

Question: on my iPhone 4 (AT&T) I can see the personal hotspot feature, but when I click on it, I'm told to contact AT&T. Is this a feature they want me to purchase? Again......on the (JB) phone that my son has, it's free for him,but not for me. Help?!?!?

Well to answer your question. You have to pay monthly for tethering. That's why it's telling you to contact AT&T. You're son will be replaced on a tiered plan because AT&T is cracking down on jailbroken devices that use tether and don't pay for it

Or you can tether though your unlimited data plan like ones self. In the UK we are not assigned to AT&T's which allows us to tether I'd your are with a network that gives unlimited data, which you'd have thought America would be one up on Europe on that one but obviously not!

For the moment, maybe...

Better be looking over your shoulder.

That's the crazy part about it but can't argue with the wireless companies here in the USA.

As far as I'm aware you go to settings click personal hot spot and set it up from there. You do need to be on unlimited data though.

Your son more than likely has MiWi 4.0 on his iPhone. That's why it's free. It's a app from cydia that you can only get through jailbreaking. If you want to tether for free you'll have to jailbreak your phone as well. Otherwise, you'll have to call AT&T to set up tethering. Which isn't free or unlimited.
