internet usage?

hi, i have just joined as i am thinking of getting an iphone4, i havnt had any iphone before and have a question.

the contract i am looking at getting has 1gb of data usage, i dont know much about these kind of things. am i right in thinking that if you are in a wifi area then no data will be used as it will conected to the wifi (so no charges or use of monthly allowence) but if your not in a wifi area then thats when it starts using the 1gb data? is this through 3g?

another question how much web browsing can you do with 1gb? is it alot?

Yes, you are correct about the wifi. 1GB is a pretty fair chunk unless you are on checking the web alot or getting emails with large attachments.
