The iOS 5 beta is the gift that just keeps on giving it seems, everyday revealing fascinating new insights via its code strings, for those diligent enough to keep searching away. Today, for example, a 9to5 Mac source has found evidence to show that the iOS 5 software development kit increases the maximum resolution for video exports from 720p to 1080p, with the iOS 5 media framework now boasting a new video export option of a 1920x1080 full HD preset. 9to5 Mac notes that up until the beta release of iOS 5, video content could only be exported in 720p. The change was discovered in the AVAsset export preset strings.
What this all means, according to the report, is that iOS 5 devices (iPhone 4, iPad 1 and 2, iPod touch fourth-gen) can now both decode and encode 1080p video, which, 9to5 Mac points out, makes it much more likely that the iPhone 5 will have an 8-megapixel camera with 1080p video capture, otherwise why bother with having iOS 5 support 1080p video exports if you cant actually capture it on your device in the first place?
