Let me start by saying that I neither own or intend to own an iPhone.
I work at a shared web hosting company, and we provide mail to customers through a shared mail server.
On this server, SSL/STARTTLS is not available.
I have heard numerous reports that, on an iPhone 4 or 4S, after upgrading to iOS 6, our custoemrs can no longer receive mail.
So far, I have gathered the following information:
This happens on GoDaddy's unsecured mail servers too.
It works fine on our VPS/Cloud plans with SSL.
They can still send mail out from the phone.
This does not happen on the iPhone 5.
Do any of you know of similar issues, or what can be done to fix this? I hate sending them to their wireless provider, because I know that will do nothing.
