Hello,

I have a iPhone 4 (GSM)
currently on: iOS 4.3.3
baseband: 04.10.01

I have been using a Gevey SIM for a year now, works fine.

- Can I update to a newer iOS while still using the Gevey I have?
- What is the best iOS to be using?
- Any other options than using a Gevey sim with my base band?
- Do I need to to preserve my BaseBand if I want to use iOS 5.1.1? how?

I am not sure if this phone is network locked, blocked or whatever...

MANY THANKS!

Yes you can update to 5.1.1 and still use Gevey as long as you update with a custom firmware and not a factory firmware. 5.1.1 is the most recent and "best" iOS to be using. No, Gevey is the only option for that baseband. Yes, you need to preserve baseband with a sn0wbreeze or redsn0w custom firmware. Hope that helps!

Is this right?

Download iOS 5.1.1 - save to Folder
Download v2.9.6 Sn0wbreeze - extract - run in admin mode.

select simple mode -
- Should I select ' HACTIVATE ' option?

Build custom IPSW.

So this will Jailbrake and Hactivate the 5.1.1 iOS? and Baseband will stay the same as before @ 04.10.01? I will still need to use Gevey SIM?

How Do I install it now to the iPhone?

Thanks!

Yes, that is exactly right. After you create the custom firmware you need to put the device into Pwned-DFU mode and then shift+restore it with iTunes. And yes, be sure to choose the hacktivate option to bypass the activation process.

When I'm Trying to RESTORE it comes up with errors ' Unable to restore '
i tried using iReb to put into PWN DFU but still no go...

What other options do I have to restore to the custom 5.1.1. iOS?
:facetime:

Its still not working, unable to restore...
what other methods in putting it into a pawned DFU.

Still not working...

I am somehow unable to restore it, or to get any iOS on it...
what else....

That's it, you need to enter pwned-dfu mode using iReb or Redsn0w, that's the only option to restore a custom firmware and preserve your baseband.
