iphone 4 mutes when mute not on randomly

I have been having an issue lately where I am on a call and all of the sudden the person I'm talking to doesn't hear me. If I smack the top of my phone they can hear me again, and randomly all of the sudden it will happen again. The mute button is not on and I'm sure it's probably something in the phone's hardware since gives it a temporary fix when I smack it on my hand. Has anyone else ever had this problem? Any clue on how to fix it? It is super annoying!!

Unless you feel comfortable taking it apart to fix it, I'd take it to an Apple Store for repair or replacement

I would do it, I've taken apart the 3G, I know this is a little different. Do you think a connector or something is just not tight? Is it much harder to get into the 4?
