iphone 4 no signal bars carrier name visible checkmend ok

hi guys

i recently bought an iphone 4 of which i was assured was working
however when i put my simcard in the carrier name is there but no signal bars
i have done a CHECKMEND report on this phone and it shows all clear its not
reported stolen or lost or anything i dont understand any ideas pls?

Get him to put his original sim in it. That way you then know if its ok or not
