iphone 4s changed phone numbers

I recently had to change phone numbers. Are the text messages from the old number gone permanently? Is it possible to retrieve them?

That may depend on your carrier at the time you had that number. They don't keep messages long. It used to be that AT&T kept them 48 hours and Verizon 10 days. If it's been a long time, you may be out of luck. But give them a call. I know of no other way.
