iPhone 4S map not working

Somehow my iphone maps don't show streets or street names any more. This means that my Next Buses ap doesn't work either. The Google map app is fine as is the satellite part of the Apple map.

I am thinking of doing a factory reset after a backup to see if this fixes the problem BUT will this mean I have to have IOS 7? I'm using IOS 6 and don't want 7.

Has anyone else had this map problem??

Have you tried the hybrid and standard features? Both of them show the street names.

Hybrid shows street names but the standard map is just a blank page with the blue blob on it...
