iPhone 4s - movie download crashed lost memory on phone

I was trying to download a movie onto my phone from my itunes, the download failed to not enough memory on the phone. I cleared up 4.5GB of memory and started the download again, it failed again. now my phone is telling me that I only have 50MB of memory left. No movie on phone either. Did a hard reboot of the phone still missing the 4.0GB of storage space. How do restore the lost memory?
