iPhone 4S randomly goes black and shows small loading symbol?

My iPhone 4S has done this twice to my knowledge, once the second day I had it then again about two weeks later. It just randomly turns off while I am not even actively doing anything and eventually brings up a small round loading symbol in the center of the screen. It won't respond to pressing buttons or anything. The first time I could not do anything to make it turn back on and waited it out...took about 30 minutes to turn back on. The second time I was able to reboot it after holding the buttons down forever. Both times it had plenty of battery left so it has nothing to do with that. I cant find anything like this in any searches, has anyone else come across this or know what it is? Any insight would be much appreciated, its starting to worry me a lot.

Hmm. Sounds like something is corrupted. I would backup your pics, apps, etc. then restore the phone as new and add back your pics, apps, etc. and see how that works.
