Did you try a hard reset? Hold down your sleep/wake and home button until you see the apple, your phone will then reboot, this can fix many glitches, let us know if it works.

why dont you give Apple a ring, you have 90 days of free phone support with your iphone 5,or if you have an Apple store near you pop in with it,personally i would just ring Apple,i'm sure they will help.

I am going to guess you have your cellular data turned off based on your description. As an FYI your phone is behaving exactly as designed by Apple. WiFi does in fact turn off while the phone is asleep. Which is why you can't turn off cellular data if you want to keep getting alerts in sleep mode. Now you could try plugging the phone in while it is asleep to see if WiFi remains on. I haven't personally tested to see if that will keep it on but it would be nice to know.

The problem is am not in the states and i gut it from a retailer tht sells iphones thts the prb i need a solution anything will do thx

it doesnt matter where you are or where you bought it,you are still covered by Apple with a 12 month warranty and 90 days phone support so don't worry about that, give them a ring.

Simple, get a replacement. This fixed my issue and the new one doesn't have wifi issues anymore.

I had this problem, it would lose Wifi every 30seconds or so. I turned on the "ask to join networks" then switched the phone off, then on again then connected it to my wifi and it's not lost it since.

I have tested it and WiFi does indeed stay on when the phone goes to sleep, if you plug the phone into the charger. It's how I do large downloads overnight.

Figured as much. But hate to state a guess as fact. Thanks for testing and sharing. :)

This says it all. My iPhone 4 was "losing" its WiFi during Sleep Mode from the very beginning (I'm with ATT) and found that this is completely normal.

You could just go to Settings and put the lock screen timing to "Never" and your iPhone will not sleep, allowing you to download for a long time....
