9to5 Mac reports today on a story on M.I.C gadget which claims that an iPhone 5 prototype has vanished from Shenzhen in China, which the report says explains the sudden flood of iPhone 5 cases that have appeared in China today, and as featured in the video above. Apparently the prototype, which was disguised in an iPhone 4 case, was a test model with a finished iPhone 5 body in the much-touted teardrop shape. Apparently this phone also has “slightly modified iPhone 4 electronics”, as well as the A4 chip, and the same amount of memory as the iPhone 4. This leads 9to5 Mac to conclude that maybe the phone in the tear-drop case is actually the low-end iPhone 4s, as it seems to be identical in every way other than the case to the current iPhone 4. If that’s the case (sorry!) then maybe the iPhone prototype that recently went missing in a bar in San Francisco could be the actual iPhone 5. Well we’ll know soon enough, either way!
