9to5 Mac has news today of an exciting new scoop about the iPhone 5S from a very credible source, Ming-Chi Kuo from KGI Securities, who says that he expects the iPhone 5S to have a sapphire fingerprint reader home button that is slightly convex, rather than concave. As 9to5 Mac says, the rumours of a sapphire home button for the next iPhone have been around for a while, but this is a new twist on an old story, and one from a very reputable source. Kuo says that the reason for the home button being convex rather than concave is to provide the extra space needed to accommodate the new fingerprint sensor under the sapphire home button. Making the home button out of sapphire is easily explained by the fact that, according to Kuo, a convex home button would be more vulnerable to scratches, so a harder material, such as sapphire, is necessary, rather than the current plastic button.
