For some time now, Apple has wanted to steer away and make the switch from standard LCD IPS technology to Sharp's IGZO screen technology. IGZO display's are cutting-edge and promote a plethora of benefits to mobile devices. Unfortunately, Sharp has been unable to fulfill IGZO mobile display orders due to many obstacles in mass production of the smart panels.
According to DigiTimes, which has been proved to be unreliable in the past, Sharp is getting ready to mass produce IGZO displays at its Kameyama Plant Number 2 before the end of 2013. The company will be using 8G substrate technology to produce the IGZO display panels.
Being a major display supplier to Apple, theoretically, Sharp could very well be ready to produce IGZO displays for next year's iPhone 6. While the iPhone 5/5C/5S all sport a Retina display, which has limit to 640 x 1,136 pixels, the IGZO display can support up to four times as much as 1080p. IGZO displays also take up 1/10 of the energy of a standard LCD and only use extra power when a touchscreen is touched.

Using 8G glass substrates, Sharp will be the first company in the world to achieve commercial production of high-definition LCD panels for smartphones, the company said.
The highly efficient production levels achievable with 8G glass substrates will be made possible by an optimized production process as well as by IGZO technologys ability to enable smaller thin-film transistors and increased light transmittance.
