iphone 6s - ring when switched to "silence"

how do i set my phone to ring for incoming calls(at selcted times) when it is switched to silent.
i have tried what i think are all the variations in "do not disturb" without success -
a detailed step by step settings would be extremely helpful.

Not possible on an unjailbroken phone. The best you can do is to add contacts that you want to be able to get through during DND in Favorites and then allow Favorites to ring through during DND. There’s also a Repeated Calls setting in DND that allows callers who call more than once in 3 minutes to get through. However, if the mute switch is on the phone isn’t going to ring, period.
