MacRumors reports that Verizon has today announced its earnings results for Q1 2012, which reveal that it activated 3.2 million iPhones during the first three months of the year. This marks a drop from the 4.3 million iPhones sold in the previous quarter, Q4 2011, which was Apples record-breaking quarter, with its sales of 37 million iPhones in total worldwide, so a slight fall-off in sales is probably to be expected. MacRumors notes that this drop could also be reflected in Apples own earnings results for the quarter, due to be announced next week, and which many analysts are predicting will be slightly lower than the record-breaking 37 million figure of the previous quarter. MacRumors reports that Verizon sold 6.3 million smartphones in total in Q1, so that means that the iPhone still accounts for more than half of Verizons smartphone business.
