The Verge writes today of a very useful iPhone accessory for diabetics called the iBGStar, which is an FDA-approved blood glucose meter available to buy now via Apple Retail Stores and Walgreens for $99.95. The device can be attached to an iPhone or iPod touch by plugging it into the 30-pin connector, so that the user can sync their glucose levels with the free iBGStar Diabetes Manager app that comes with the device. The iBGStar can be used to take blood samples with disposable strips, in a very similar way to that which regular blood glucose meters work. Once it has read several readings, the app that comes with the device will analyze the data and present the user with statistics, graphs and trends that could be very helpful to the user’s ongoing treatment. A log of the data can also be sent to your doctor for their consideration. The Verge writes that the device will also work independently from the iPhone via an internal battery, and it can store up to 300 readings.
If you’re in Europe, The Verge writes that you can get a very similar device called the GlugoDock by Medisana in Europe for €99.99, which is around$130.
